According to Tempstar PGR5 manufacturer product information:

QuietComfort® 16 Packaged Gas Furnace-Air Conditioner Combination

PGR5 Series K identifies direct spark ignition

The PGR5 Series K installation instructions identify a direct spark ignition system. Preserve whether ignition never begins or whether burners light and stop. Give the contractor the complete Series K equipment record; a furnace hot-surface-igniter example does not establish the ignition arrangement in this package.

According to Tempstar PGR5 PGR5-02SI manual:

Unit is equipped with a direct spark ignition 100 percent lockout system.

Limit and ignition-lockout indications identify different observations

The PGR5 table separately describes an open high-temperature limit and unsuccessful ignition. Keep the exact flash count with the timing of the heating attempt. Ask which measured condition supports a repair, rather than ordering an ignition or blower component from the brand name alone.

The Tempstar PGR5 PGR5-02SI manual also explains:

Limit switch faults (LED 2 flashes) High temperature limit switch is open.

Ignition lockout fault (LED 5 flashes) Unit unsuccessfully attempted ignition for 15 minutes.

Confirm registration and the applicable warranty certificate

Tempstar publishes the registration condition and jurisdiction exceptions below. Give the contractor the equipment certificate, installation record and registration history. Ask which terms apply to the named model and proposed work; the general warranty page does not establish that this visit or its labor is covered.

According to Product Registration | Warranty | Tempstar®:

To the original owner, a 10-year parts limited warranty upon timely registration of new equipment. Warranty period is 5 years if not registered within 90 days. Jurisdictions wherein warranty benefits cannot be conditioned on registration will automatically receive a 10-year parts limited warranty. See warranty certificate for complete details.

What to tell the contractor

Give the full Tempstar PGR5 model and suffix, indoor and outdoor match where applicable, thermostat or wall-control model, exact displayed indication and the sequence observed before the complaint. Preserve a photograph of the original display for the contractor.
