According to Heil N96MSN manufacturer product information:

Performance 96 Gas Furnace

N96MSN checks the pressure-switch state before ignition

The N96MSN sequence starts with a control self-check and pressure-switch contacts before the inducer starts. Describe the observed sequence from outside the cabinet: whether the furnace attempts to start, lights, or loses flame. Internal pressure-switch and electrical checks belong to the contractor.

According to Tempstar-linked N96MSN installation, start-up, operating and service instructions, N96MSN-03SI:

The furnace control performs a self-check, verifies the pressure switch contacts LPS and HPS are open, and starts the inducer motor IDM.

Keep flame proving distinct from a blower complaint

The same manual describes a separate failure to prove flame after the gas valve opens. Preserve whether flame never establishes or disappears during the attempt, rather than treating every no-heat complaint as a blower replacement. Ask the contractor to identify the matching ignition and sensing checks.

The Tempstar-linked N96MSN installation, start-up, operating and service instructions, N96MSN-03SI also explains:

If the burner flame is not proved within two seconds, the control CPU will close the gas valve GV, and the control CPU will repeat the ignition sequence for up to three more Trials-For-Ignition before going to Ignition-Lockout.

Confirm registration and the applicable warranty certificate

Heil publishes the registration condition and jurisdiction exceptions below. Give the contractor the equipment certificate, installation record and registration history. Ask which terms apply to the named model and proposed work; the general warranty page does not establish that this visit or its labor is covered.

According to Product Registration | Warranty | Heil®:

To the original owner, a 10-year parts limited warranty upon timely registration of new equipment. Warranty period is 5 years if not registered within 90 days. Jurisdictions wherein warranty benefits cannot be conditioned on registration will automatically receive a 10-year parts limited warranty. See warranty certificate for complete details.

What to tell the contractor

Give the full Heil N96MSN model and suffix, indoor and outdoor match where applicable, thermostat or wall-control model, exact displayed indication and the sequence observed before the complaint. Preserve a photograph of the original display for the contractor.
