Goodman Furnace Repair: GMS8 Control and Ignition
If you smell gas or a CO alarm sounds, leave the home and call the gas utility or 911 from outside.
For Goodman furnace repair, contact an independent heating contractor with the model and counted flashes. RS6612006R7 documents GMS8/GDS8/GHS8 controls, including retry lockout and low flame signal. Those indications direct a model-specific diagnosis; they do not establish that an ignitor, sensor or board needs replacement.

Retry lockout differs from a weak flame signal
Record whether the furnace tries to light before stopping, or lights before losing the flame indication. The cited diagrams assign a retry/recycle lockout to one flash and low flame signal to seven. These are separate observations for the service call and require their own checks.
According to Goodman GMS8/GDS8/GHS8 service instructions (RS6612006R7):
SYSTEM LOCKOUT (RETRIES/RECYCLES EXCEEDED)
LOW FLAME SIGNAL
Keep ignition and pressure-switch observations separate
The manual identifies the hot-surface igniter in its control wiring and defines a pressure-switch-stuck-open indication separately. Report the start sequence without opening the cabinet to test these circuits. A replacement request should follow the contractor’s diagnosis of the installed model and wiring.
The Goodman GMS8/GDS8/GHS8 service instructions (RS6612006R7) also explains:
HOT SURFACE IGNITER
PRESSURE SWITCH STUCK OPEN
