Carrier Furnace Repair: Match the Control Family

If you smell gas or a CO alarm sounds, leave the home and call the gas utility or 911 from outside.

For Carrier furnace repair, call an independent heating contractor with the full furnace model and recorded status code. The 58CVA/58CVX, 58MVP-family and 59MN7A guides cover different controls. Describe which stage of heat failed before anyone applies a code definition or proposes a replacement part.

Three Carrier control families require separate tables

A code number is only the start of the service conversation. Keep the TG-GFC80-02 guide for 58CVA/58CVX separate from 58-06T and the modulating 59MN7A guide. The pressure-switch descriptions are tied to the named control and heating stage. Ask the contractor to identify the applicable table on the work order.

The Carrier 58CVA/58CVX troubleshooting guide, TG-GFC80-02 lists code 31 as:

31 HIGH−HEAT PRESSURE SWITCH OR RELAY DID NOT CLOSE OR REOPENED

Control relay may be defective or gas valve is mis−wired. Refer to status code #32.

The Carrier 59MN7A troubleshooting guide, 59MN7A-01T lists code 35 as:

35 GAS VALVE FAULT

Indicates the modulating gas valve failed to respond to a command from the furnace control or power to the gas valve electronics was interrupted.

Ignition and blower complaints need different evidence

If ignition fails, give the contractor the ignition attempt and code history. If the blower starts and stops, describe that sequence separately. The guides distinguish ignition proving from blower motor communication; the two complaints should not become one assumed board failure.

The Carrier 58CVA/58CVX troubleshooting guide, TG-GFC80-02 also explains:

Control will try three more times before lockout #14 occurs. If flame signal is lost during blower on−delay period, blower will come on for the selected blower off−delay.

Indicates the blower failed to reach 250 RPM or the blower failed to communicate within the prescribed time limits. Thirty seconds after being turned ON or ten seconds during steady−state operation.
